Plaza Lavalle / Lavalle Square:

El Sábado 25 de Mayo, y para festejar el día de la patria se realizó la salida complementaria de Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires a Plaza Lavalle.
La salida se organizó por pedido del Arq. Alejandro Soneira, profesor adjunto de la cátedra de Arquitectura 2 de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, bajo la titularidad del arq. Adolfo Mondejar para dibujar junto a 60 alumnos de 2º año de la cátedra, en su paso por la ciudad, como viaje de estudios.

On Saturday May 25, and to celebrate the day of the homeland, took place the complementary outing of Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires to Lavalle Square.
The meeting was organized by order of Architect Alejandro Soneira, assistant professor of Architecture 2 of the National University of Córdoba, under the ownership of arch. Adolfo Mondejar to draw along with 60 second-year students of the cathedra, on their way through the city, as a study trip.




Día nublado y frío, salí bien abrigado.
Ya de antemano tenía pensado dibujar el Mirador Massue, mutilado exponente del Art Nouveau de la ciudad, pero finalmente me decidí por el Teatro Colón. Sentado muy cerca del ángulo sobre Libertad y Viamonte, abarque todo el edificio, deformando bastante la perspectiva para que entre todo en la hoja, con algo de entorno para contextualizar el croquis.
Dibujado con lapicera Kaweco AL Sport con pluma EF con tinta marrón resistente al agua en hoja Schoellershammer 25x35cm de 300gms.
Linda tarde de dibujo a pesar del frío. Luego hicimos la Expo de la producción del día.

Cloudy and cold day, I left well snugged.
Already in advance I had planned to draw the Mirador Massue, mutilated exponent of the Art Nouveau of the city, but finally I decided on the Teatro Colón. Sitting very close to Libertad and Viamonte St. corner, and to cover the whole building, distorting the perspective enough so that everything fits in the page, with some environment to contextualize the sketch.

Nice drawing afternoon despite the cold. Then we did the Expo of the production of the day.

Av. de Mayo Este / East de Mayo Av.:

Tarde de sábado muy gris. En cualquier momento llovería y estaba dudando partir para la salida #81 de Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires a Av. de Mayo Este, el 16/12/17. Última salida del año. Tenía muchas ganas de dibujar ahí. Si bien hice muchos croquis a lo largo de la avenida, hacia rato no estaba por ahí.
Me fui de casa sabiendo que en cualquier momento volvería. A lo sumo dibujaría desde algún café.

Gray Saturday evening. At any time it would rain and I was hesitant to go for the #81 outing of Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires to East De Mayo Av., on 12/16/17. Last meeting of the year. I really wanted to draw there. Although I did many sketches along the avenue, I didn't draw there since a while.
I left home knowing that at any time I would return. At the most I would draw from a café table.





Llegue más temprano que de costumbre y fui directo a dibujar la esquina de Perú y Av. de Mayo. Hacía tiempo tenía ganas de dibujar el anexo de las ex tiendas Gath & Chaves. Me acomode en mi banquito a 50m de la esquina aproximadamente y traté de dibujar lo más rápido posible. Ya estaba negro y en cualquier momento empezaba la lluvia, y parecía que iba a caer mucha agua.
Pude terminar con el trabajo de línea, con lápiz mecánico 03 y 05. Pude empezar con acuarela a pintar los vidrios y se vino la lluvia. Me refugié bajo el techito de un kiosco de diarios que estaba cerrado y pinté un poco más. Cuando ya estaba bien mojado decidí dejar eso para más tarde y ver que podía hacer desde otro lugar.

I arrived earlier than usual and went straight to Peru St. and De Mayo Av. For long ago I wanted to draw the the former Gath & Chaves store annex building. I settled on my bench about 50m from the corner and tried to draw as quickly as possible. It was already black and at any moment the rain began, and it seemed that a lot of water was going to fall.
I was able to finish with the line work, with mechanical pencil 03 and 05. I could start with watercolor to paint the glasses and the rain begun. I took refuge under the roof of a newspaper kiosk that was closed and painted a little more. When I was already well wet I decided to leave that for later and see what I could do from another place.

Me fui al Pasaje Roverano. Ahí adentro podía dibujar al reparo de la lluvia. Bueno, sábado a la tarde esta cerrado.
Camine para el oeste y ver si encontraba a alguien del grupo. Estaba Alex, Carlos, Eleonora, Alberto y Cesar dibujando en la esquina de Av. de Mayo y Piedras, en la ochava bajo techo, o casi. Ya llovía poco asi que los acompañe ahi. Dibuje la esquina opuesta. Un par de remates, desde la esquina hacia mitad de cuadra.
Hice trabajo de línea con microfibra 01 y acuarela en el lugar. Estuve alrededor de 90 minutos.

I went to the Roverano Passage. Inside, I could draw out of the rain. Well, Saturday afternoon is closed.
I walked to the west and see if I could find someone from the group. There was Alex, Carlos, Eleonora, Alberto and Cesar drawing at the corner of De Mayo Av. and Piedras St., in the indoor ochava, or almost. It was already raining so little that I accompanied them there. Draw the opposite corner. A couple of toppings, from the corner to the middle of the block.

I did line work with 01 fine liner and watercolor on site. It took me around 90 minutes.

Todavia con un rato hasta terminar la jornada, ya con sol me instale en el eje del edificio del Café Tortoni. Quería dibujar la marquesina. Al terminar el dibujo decidí incluir también el edificio.
Con una rara decisión lo dibuje en lápiz, para que quede en un segundo plano.
Eso fue todo, luego en casa complete con acuarela.

Still with a while until the end of the day, with sun I settled on the axis of the Tortoni Café building. I wanted to draw the canopy. When finished drawing it I decided to include the building.
With a rare decision I draw it in pencil, so that it is in the background.
That was it, then at home complete with watercolor.

Para la expo, que la hicimos en la plaza Roberto Arlt, había poca gente. El mal tiempo fue determinante para desistir de salir a dibujar.
Por la noche había fiesta Croquisera de fin de año, pero por el cumple de mi hijo no pude ir.
A pesar de la lluvia fue una linda tarde. Hice 3 dibujos, pero me quede con trabajo para completar en casa.

For the expo, which we did in the Roberto Arlt square, there were few people. The bad weather was decisive to desist from going out to draw.
At night there was a Croquiseros party to close the year, but because of my son's birthday, I could not go.
Despite the rain it was a lovely afternoon. I made 3 drawings, but I stayed with work to complete at home.

Cabildo de Buenos Aires:

El sábado 15 de Abril se realizó la salida 73 de Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires al Cabildo de la Nación.

Es raro para mí estar un sábado en Plaza de Mayo. Paso relativamente seguido durante los días de semana pero un sábado el lugar, desde mi punto de vista, tiene otra impronta. No había tanta gente como un día laboral, pero igualmente había bastante, claro que esperaba que el lugar esté más tranquilo.

No sé bien porqué, y se que no es así, pero en mi subconsciente asocio la Plaza de Mayo como un lugar de protesta, y el Obelisco como lugar de festejos.

A eso voy cuando digo que el lugar tenía otro carácter este sábado. Mucho turista, gente paseando, sacando fotos, vendedores ambulantes, croquiseros! y un largo etc. El ambiente estaba jovial y muy relajado. La plaza invitaba a quedarse ahí.

Tenía pensado hacer croquis de los 3 edificios más importantes: El Cabildo, Casa Rosada y Catedral Metropolitana, que, por capricho del sol y las sombras para estar dibujando a resguardo tuve que cambiar.

On Saturday, April 15 took place the #73 Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires outing to the Buenos Aires Cabildo.

It is rare for me to be on a Saturday in Plaza de Mayo. I pass regularly during the weekdays but on a Saturday the place, from my point of view, has another imprint.

There were not as many people as a working day, but there was just as much. Of course, I expected the place to be quieter.

I don't know why, and I know it is not that way, but in my subconscious I associate the Plaza de Mayo as a place of protest, and the Obelisk as a place of festivities.

That's what I mean when I say the place had another character this Saturday. A lot of tourists, people walking, taking photos, street vendors, sketchers! And a long etc. The atmosphere was lively and very relaxed. The square invited to stay there.

I planned to sketch the 3 most important buildings: El Cabildo, Casa Rosada and Catedral Metropolitana, which, at the whim of the sun and the shadows to be drawing on protection, I had to change.

El primer croquis que hice fue desde la escalinata de la Catedral, mirando hacia el Cabildo, la Diagonal Sur, la Iglesia San Ignacio de Loyola y más allá.

Entorno urbano muy rico y ecléctico, donde las 2 construcciones coloniales resaltan no sólo por su arquitectura característica, sino también por el color blanco, con gran contraste sobre los edificios vecinos. Lamentablemente esto no está reflejado en el croquis, solo lo dibuje en tinta :)

Con lapicera Hero 9018 en libreta Brugge 19x25cm con hojas de 80gms.

The first sketch was from the steps of the Metropolitan Cathedral, looking towards the Cabildo, Diagonal Sur Av., San Ignacio de Loyola Church and beyond.

Very rich and eclectic urban environment, where the 2 colonial buildings stand out not only for their characteristic architecture, but also for the white color, with great contrast on the neighboring buildings. Unfortunately this is not reflected in the sketch, just draw it in ink :)

Para el segundo croquis, seguía con ganas de estar en la plaza. Decidí dibujar el edificio del ex Palacio de la Jefatura de Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Este edificio tiene frente a 3 calles. Las 2 esquinas están rematadas por cúpulas, y sobre Av. de Mayo hay una tercera. Las cúpulas son bien distintas entre sí con variaciones en medidas y alturas, y son resultado de un edificio construido en 2 etapas.

Este tema de cúpulas fue el motivo del croquis, para graficar estos 3 remates juntos, y apenas esbozar las cubiertas en mansarda.

Finalmente me hubiese gustado incluir la cúpula del ex edificio del Diario “La Prensa”, pero la arboleda no me lo permitió.

Con micro fibra 005 en cuaderno Stillman & Birn Alpha Series y acuarelas en el lugar.

For the second sketch, I still wanted to be in the square. I decided to draw the building of the former Palace of the Government Headquarters of the City of Buenos Aires.

This building faces 3 streets. The 2 corners are topped by domes, and on Av. De Mayo there is a third. The domes are very different from one another with variations in measurements and heights, and are the result of a building constructed in 2 stages.

This cupolas was the theme of the sketch, to draw these 3 topping together, and just to outline the roofs in mansard.

Finally I would have liked to include the dome of the former "La Prensa" newspaper building, but the grove would not let me.

With fine liner 005 on Stillman & Birn A4 sketchbook and watercolors on location.

3º y último croquis, ya poco para terminar la jornada. Me fui al patio interno del Cabildo. Conozco bien ese lugar. Quería hacer un detalle de la fachada con el ingreso, frontis, torre, etc. todo simétrico, solo un poco deformado por la vista hacia arriba. Destacar el volumen blanco con el agregado de las pocas sombras proyectadas por molduras, pilastras, vanos en muros gruesos, herrerías negras, etc.

El patio si que estaba lleno de croquiseros, por todos lados había gente dibujando y algunos visitantes. Para el distraído, era una escena sorprendente!

En lápiz mecánico 003 y acuarelas en el lugar en libreta Watercolor Moleskine A4. Algo de acuarela en el lugar. Luego complete en mi escritorio.

3rd and last sketch, close to finish the day. I went to the inner courtyard of the Cabildo. I know this place well. I wanted to make a detail of the facade with the entrance, frontis, tower, etc. All symmetrical, only slightly deformed by the upward view. Highlight the white volume with the addition of the few shadows projected by moldings, pilasters, vain thick walls, black smithies, etc.

The patio was full of sketchers, people everywhere were drawing and some visitors. To the distracted, it was a surprising scene!

With mechanical pencil 03/05/1.3 and watercolors in place in Watercolor Moleskine A4 sketchbook. Some watercolor on the spot. Then finished in my desk.

Al finalizar, hicimos la clásica expo de fin de la jornada. Luego a un café a compartir experiencias. Hermoso día, lástima que mi hija no me acompañó!!!

Escenas Urbanas / Cityscapes:

Quise dejar de hacer detalles o sectores de edificios para centrarme más en situaciones urbanas. De a poco voy entrenando el ojo y la mano para desarrollar más este tipo de dibujos.
Hice unos cuantos que se pueden ver más abajo, pero no estoy conforme con los resultados. Solo me queda seguir haciendo este tipo de dibujos para encontrar mi lenguaje.

I wanted to stop doing details or sections of buildings to focus on urban situations. Slowly, I´m training the eye and hand to develop this type of drawings.
I draw a few sketches that you can see below, but I am not satisfied with the results. I can only continue to do these drawings to find my language.

Un sábado luego de visitar obras, pase por mi amada esquina de Florida/Diagonal Norte/Bme. Mitre. Al pie del monumento a Sáenz Peña hay unas mesitas, atornilladas directamente en la vereda y de casualidad había una libre, con una hermosa vista de la esquina de La Equitativa del Plata. Me hubiese gustado abarcar más edificios, pero las ramas de los árboles me lo impedían.

Tengo un nuevo cuaderno Brugge, de hojas de 80gms. Pienso usarlo para hacer croquis con tinta y con lápiz, ya que esa hoja no resiste acuarela. Igualmente un poco de color le agregue.

Dibuje por 1:30hs, y 30 minutos más de acuarela, todo en el lugar, lapicera Lamy con pluma EF con tinta resistente al agua.

Saturday, after visiting some construction sites, passed through my beloved Florida/Diagonal Norte/Bme. Mitre corner.

At the foot of Sáenz Peña monument there are small tables, screwed directly into the sidewalk and by chance there was a one free, with a beautiful view of the corner of La Equitativa del Plata building. I would have liked to have covered more buildings, but the branches of the trees prevented me.

I have a new Brugge sketchbook with of 80gms sheets. I plan to use it to make sketches with ink and pencil, since that sheet does not support watercolor. But I added a few washes.

Drawn for 90 minutes, and 30 more for watercolor, all on site, with Lamy Fountain pen with EF nib with water resistant ink.

La Av. Leandro N. Alem, entre Retiro y la Av. Córdoba es un límite entre el damero de la trama urbana y los edificios de Catalinas Norte, girados a 45° con respecto a la fachada Oeste. Son aproximadamente 600m de situaciones urbanas poco usuales. Hay muchos puntos interesantes para dibujar.

Este croquis lo hice a unos metros de la esquina de Alem y San Martín mirando hacia Córdoba. Me gusta el frente Oeste de Alem, que es relativamente uniforme en alturas, pero los pequeños cambios de dirección de la avenida le aporta dinamismo. Aparte, de fondo hay edificios más altos, que agregan algo de caos a la escena.

Lo dibuje el 9/3/16. No sabía si agregarle color, estoy conforme con el resultado del trabajo de línea. Me decidí resaltar el edificio del cruce de Alem, Córdoba y 25 de Mayo, ya que hace de remate del frente edificado. Con lapicera Lamy Safari con pluma EF con tinta resistente al agua en libreta Moleskine large. El color en mi escritorio.

Leandro N. Alem Av., between Retiro and Córdoba Av. is a border between the urban checkerboard and the buildings of Catalinas Norte, rotated at 45 ° with respect to the west façade. There are approximately 600m of unusual urban situations. There are many interesting spots to draw.

I sketch this a few meters from the corner of Alem and San Martin looking towards Cordoba. I like the West front of Alem, which is relatively uniform in heights, but the small changes of direction of the avenue brings dynamism. I drawn this sketch on 3/9/16. I did not know if adding color, I'm happy with the result of line work. I decided to highlight the building of the cross of Alem, Cordoba and 25 de Mayo, as it work as focal point of the built front.

Esquina de Av. Cordoba y Av. Eduardo Madero. Lugar de avenidas anchas, mucha circulación vehicular, camiones, etc. Poco y nada de peatones. Esta esquina tiene la particularidad de concentrar divisiones de sectores urbanos consolidados y muy dispares. Hacia el Norte, Córdoba es el límite de Catalinas Norte. De Córdoba hacia el sur ya se encuentra el damero de manzanas cuadradas de Bs. As. y sobre la Av. Madero estas manzanas son atípicas, de formas triangulares y trapezoidales , que gracias a un cambio de código volvieron a aparecer torres de oficinas (motivo de este croquis). Se encuentran la Torre República en primer plano, luego le siguen la Torre Bouchard Plaza (oficinas del Diario La Nación) y Torre Bouchard.
Hacia el este se puede decir que “empieza” Puerto Madero hacia el Sur. Hacia el Norte el puerto. Lugar extraño...
El croquis lo hice el 29/1/15 en pleno verano. Mucho calor. Recién ahora le puse un poco de color. Con lapicera Kaweco con pluma EF con tinta marrón resistente al agua en libreta Moleskine large. Luego complete con acuarelas en casa.

Córdoba and Eduardo Madero Av. corner. A place of wide avenues, a lot of vehicular traffic, trucks, etc. Little pedestrian traffic. This corner has the particularity to divide different consolidated and concentrated urban areas. To the north, Cordoba is Catalinas Norte limit. To the South from Cordoba Av. we find the classical checkerboard of square blocks of Bs. As. and at Av. Madero these city blocks are atypical, in triangular and trapezoidal shapes. Thanks to a code change office towers reappeared (reason for this sketch).We find the Torre Republica at the foreground, followed by Torre Bouchard Plaza (La Nacion Newspaper Headquarters) and Bouchard Tower.
Towards the east one can say that "begins" Puerto Madero to the south. To the North, the port. Strange place...
I drew this scene in 1/29/15 at  summer, really hot. Just now I put a little color. With Kaweco fountain pen with EF nib with brown water resistant ink, on Moleskine Sketchbook large. Later completed with  watercolors @ my desk.

Luego de un almuerzo con amigos, pase por la esquina de Adolfo Alsina y Defensa. Ya habia dibujado aca, solo y con los Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires, pero nunca me detuve en la Farmacia de la Estrella. Una esquina que me encanta. Lamentablemente no estaba con mucho tiempo, asique hice un croquis rapido y luego complete con acuarelas en casa.
Con lapicera Kaweco con pluma EF. Los trazos más gruesos con Lamy con pluma EF, todo con tinta resistente al agua, en libreta Moleskine sketchbook large.

After a lunch with friends, I stoped by the corner of Adolfo Alsina and Defensa. Had already drawn here, alone and with Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires, but never stopped at the  Farmacia de la Estrella drugstore. A corner that I love. Unfortunately I was short of time, so here I did a quick sketch and then finished with watercolors at home.

Con un buen rato esperando a un contratista para ver una obra en Lomas de Zamora me fui a la plaza principal del barrio y primero dibuje la facha da de la Municipalidad, luego uno de los campanarios y la cúpula de fondo de la Iglesia Nuestra Señora de La Paz. Ambos desde el mismo banquito de la plaza.
Todo con microfibra 005. Luego acuarela en mi escritorio, en libreta Moleskine sketchbook large.

With a large spare time waiting for a contractor to visit a construction in Lomas de Zamora I went to the main square of the neighborhood and draw the Town Hall facade, then one of the bell tower and dome of the Nuestra Señora de La Paz Church. Both from the same bench in the square.
All with 005 fine liner, later watercolours at my desk, on Moleskine sketchbook large.

Esta es una vista de las torres de Puerto Madero desde Av. de la Rabida. Fue un mediodía. Salí a caminar a ver que encontraba para dibujar, y dando la vuelta por detrás del Parque Colón decidí dibujar el racimo de torres que pueblan la Costanera Sur en los alrededores de la Av. Azucena Villaflor.
Dibujado únicamente con micro fibra 005. Luego con aguada de tinta Noodlers Lexington Gray en pincel de agua marque las sombras. En libreta Moleskine sketchbook Large.

This is a view of Puerto Madero towers from De la Rabida Av. It was at noon. At lunchbreak go out for a walk to seek for something to draw, and turning behind Parque Colón Square I decided to draw the cluster of towers that populate the Costanera Sur around Azucena Villaflor Av.
Drawn with fine liner 005. Later add shadows with watered Lexington Gray Noodlers ink on a waterbrush. On Moleskine sketchbook large.

Estos los hice en 2 dias consecutivos, y fueron de los primeros que realice. El primero es la entrada al Museo del Bicentenario, en la esquina de Hipólito Yrigoyen y Paseo Colón. Decidí dejar el croquis solo en línea, ya que lo complete con mucha textura. Dibujado en micro fibras 005 + 01 + 02.
El segundo es la esquina de Corrientes y 9 de Julio. Lo obvio hubiese sido incluir el Obelisco, pero solo iba a entrar la parte baja del mismo, cortando el croquis en 2. Dibujado con lapicera Lamy con pluma EF con tinta resistente al agua, luego acuarelas en mi escritorio.
Ambos croquis en libreta Brugge 14x9cm, hoja de 100gms.

I made these 2 sketches in consecutive days and were among the first to perform. The first is the entrance to the Museo del Bicentenario, at the corner of Hipólito Yrigoyen St. and Paseo Colón Av. I decided to leave it without color because it has lots of texture. Drawn in fine liners 005 + 01 + 02.
The second is Corrientes Av. and 9 de Julio Av. corner. The obvious thing would have been to include the Obelisk, but in that only case, I´m going to get the bottom of it, cutting the sketch to 2. Drawn with Lamy fountain pen with EF nib with water resistant ink, later watercolours at my desk.
