Bahia Blanca:

Por razones laborales visite en 3 oportunidades la ciudad de Bahía Blanca, en la Provincia de Buenos Aires. Los 3 fueron viajes de ida y vuelta en el dia. Llegaba a la mañana temprano y volvía alrededor de las 20hs. En todos los casos, a mas tardar a las 14hs ya habia terminado mi trabajo, entonces almorzaba y cruzaba a la Plaza Rivadavia.
El primer dibujo que hice fue el remate de la torre del Palacio Municipal. Bocetado en lápiz, luego microfibras 005+01, en 1:30hs aprox. Acuarelas en casa. Sobre libreta Brugge 12x19cm, 180grm.

For business reasons I visit Bahia Blanca city in Buenos Aires Province in 3 opportunities. All the trips where 1 day round, arriving early in the morning and back at 8pm. In all cases, no later than at 14hs had already finished my work, then having lunch and crossed the Rivadavia square.
The first sketch I did was the top of the tower of the City Hall. Outlined in pencil, then fineliners 005+01 in 1:30hs approx. Then watercolours @home. On Brugge sketchbook 12x19cm, 180gms.

En la 2da visita dibuje la fachada de la Catedral Nuestra Señora de la Merced. Microfibra 005+01sobre libreta Brugge 12x19cm, 180grm. para este croquis estuve 3 horas aprox dibujando en el sitio. Mas acuarelas en casa.

En la tercera tuve poco tiempo, pero en el aeropuerto mientras esperaba mi vuelo dibuje una columna de transformador eléctrico en el estacionamiento, el tractor de arrastre del avión (lamentablemente llegó el avión y el tractor se fue… quedó incompleto) y en vuelo dibujé la cabina (acuarela incluída). Todos con microfibra 005+01, sobre libreta Brugge 14x9cm, hoja 100gms. Acuarelas en mi escritorio.

On the 3rd was short on spare time, but at the airport while waiting for my flight I caught a electrical transformer over a concrete structure in the parking lot, a plane tow truck (unfortunately the plane arrived so the truck go away… remained incomplete) and at the flight sketched the cabin (watercolours included). All this sketches with fineliners 005+01, on Brugge sketchbook 12x19cm, 180gms.

Recoleta

El Sábado 27/7/13 realizamos una salida a la Recoleta varios colegas. Nos encontramos a las 10am y fuimos directamente a Plaza Francia a dibujar. Fue un hermoso dia aunque estaba un poco fresco.
Dibujamos hasta las 13hs y fuimos a comer pizza, luego seguimos a la tarde dentro del cementerio. Antes de volver, compartimos un buen café e intercambiamos experiencias y croquis.
Este fue el primer croquis que hice, sentado en una pequeña plazoleta de Av. Alvear justo antes de la curva hacia Schiaffino, mirando hacia Nuestra Señora del Pilar. Quise retratar el monumento a Torcuato de Alvear por su verticalidad contrastando con el paseo de la feria de artistas y artesanos, con sus tiendas un tanto desprolijas y el CC Recoleta e Iglesia del Pilar a la distancia.

On Saturday 7/27/13 with fellow sketchers go to Recoleta. We met at 10am and went straight to Plaza Francia to draw. It was a beautiful day even though it was a little cold.
Draw until 13pm and went to eat pizza to Vicente Lopez St. At the afternoon we visit the cemetery. before heading back home, we share a coffee and exchanged experiences and sketches.
This was the first sketch I did, sitting on a small square of Alvear Avenue just before the turn to Schiaffino, facing Nuestra Señora del Pilar church. I wanted to portray the Torcuato de Alvear monument for its verticality in contrasts with craftsmen fair, with their tents a little messy, with Del Pilar church an Recoleta Cultural Centre in the distance.

A la tarde seguimos en el interior del Cementerio de la Recoleta. Me gustó este espacio de tumbas en la plazoleta del Cristo Central. La tumba más alta es la de Guillermo Rawson. Me gusto la escena ya que el sol estaba bajo, e iluminaba algunas caras directamente dando un buen contraste.

In the afternoon we continue inside the Recoleta Cemetery. Liked this space full of graves in the square of Central Christ. The highest one is the grave of William Rawson. I liked the scene as the sun was low, and lit a few faces directly giving a good contrast. Fine liners 005 + 01 and watercolours, for about 1.5hs. On Brugge sketchbook 12x19cm, 180grm.

Cafe Tortoni:

El Café Tortoni es un café tradicional, aparte de ser uno de los bares notables de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Muchas veces que pase por la puerta quise dibujar la fachada, pero no encontraba la oportunidad hasta esta vez. Un dia de mucho frio, pero con tiempo para dibujar! Una lástima que solamente traía la libreta chica, ya que me hubiese gustado hacer un dibujo un poco más grande y detallado. Con microfibra 005 y acuarelas en mi escritorio. 1 hora dibujando en el sitio, sobre libreta Brugge 14x9cm, hoja 100gms.

The Cafe Tortoni is a traditional coffee shop, besides being one of the “bares notables” in Buenos Aires. I pass often times in front of the cafe with the idea to draw the facade, but the opportunity was not until this time. A very cold day, but with spare time to sketch! The downside is that I carry on my little sketchbook,and I wish to make a larger and detailed drawing. Drawn with fineliner 005 and watercolours @ my desk. 1 hour drawing at location, on 14x9cm sketchbook, 100gms sheet.

Banco Argentino Uruguayo / Argentino Uruguayo Bank:

El Banco Argentino Uruguayo, actualmente sede de la Jefatura de Gabinete de Ministros de la Nación obra de Eduardo Le Monnier. Dibujado en microfibra 005, luego acuarela en mi escritorio. Dibujo de línea en 2 sesiones de 40min aprox.

Lo dibuje bajo un techito del núcleo del ascensor de la estación Catedral del subte línea D (sobre Av. Diagonal Norte entre Florida y Rivadavia) porque primero estaba apoyado cómodamente en un auto, pero tuve que correr bajo techo porque el edificio que está frente a este están restaurando las fachadas y bajaba una leve lluvia de agua sucia.

Mientras dibujaba me crucé con 2 personajes. Primero vino un linyera y casi me lleva puesto porque quería entrar al ascensor (que obviamente no funciona) y luego de varios epítetos se percató que había alguien más (yo) y se quedó mirando que es lo que estaba haciendo, y luego de 30 segundos aproximadamente se fue. Al rato un señor de unos 70 años me pregunta si está dibujando (¡!). Le muestro el dibujo y pregunta si sabía de quién es el edificio. Le digo que no y me dice textual " de Edouard Stanislas Louis Le Monnier". Me cuenta un par de curiosidades de este edificio (que no sabía) y luego me cuenta detalles de la cúpula del Edificio Bencich (también de Le Monnier). Estuvimos hablando por 20 minutos aprox. Resulta que no es arquitecto el hombre, es contador!

The Banco Argentino Uruguayo, now home of the Gabinete de Ministros de la Nación by Eduardo Le Monnier. Drawn with fineliner 005, then watercolours @ my desk. The linework took 2 sessions of about 40 minutes each. I was drawing below a canopy of Catedral subway station lift entrance of Line D (over Diagonal Norte Av. between Florida and Rivadavia St.) because at first, I was lean on a parked car, but over the facade of the building next to me where full of scaffolding and some restoration work in progress so a dirty rain was falling down.

While drawing I experiment two very different situations. First, a homeless man almost passed over me to call for the subway station elevator, it was out of order and after lots of rude language he noticed that there was someone else (me) and he stared at what I was doing. After 30 second he go away. A couple of minutes later a man in his 70´s asked me if I was drawing (¡!). I show him the sketch and asked if I knew who´s the architect was. I say no and he told me verbatim "Edouard Stanislas Louis Le Monnier”. He told me a couple of curiosities of this building (that I didn't know) and then tells me a curiosity about the dome of the Bencich Building (also from Le Monnier). We talked for about 20 minutes. Turns out the man is not an architect, he´s an accountant!

Calle Florida / Florida Street:

Este miercoles me tome un largo rato y dibuje parado apoyado en la baranda de una salida de subte sobre Diagonal Norte.

El croquis de la izquierda es un detalle de fachada del Edificio La Equitativa del Plata, en la esquina de Diagonal y Florida. Detalle de las ventanas sobre la esquina (lo dibuje después del de la derecha, ya tenía poco tiempo).

El de la derecha es el edificio ex Casa Mappin & Webb, ex BNL y actual HSBC y esta pegado al edificio de Mario Botta Florida 40.

Ambos los dibuje directamente en microfibra 005 y luego acuarela en casa. Estuve 1:20hs aprox para hacerlos en línea sobre cuaderno Brugge 12x17.5cm, hoja de 100grm.

This Wednesday I took a long lunch break and draw standing leaning on the railing of a subway exit on Diagonal Norte Av.

The sketch on the left is a detail of the facade of La Equitativa del Plata Building, on the corner of Diagonal Norte Av. and Florida Street. It´s a closeup of the windows on the corner (I drew after the one over the right, and had little time).

On the right is the former Casa Mappin & Webb, former BNL Bank and current HSBC Bank and is next by Mario Botta´s  building on 40 Florida Street.

Both drawn directly with fineliner 005+01 and then watercolor at home. About 1:20hs drawing on site on Brugge sketchbook 12x17.5cm, 100grm sheet.

Sketchcrawl #39

El 13 de abril se realizó el Sketchcrawl 39. Con varios colegas sketchers fuimos a Las Marianas, Provincia de Buenos Aires con dibujantes de Buenos Aires y La Plata. Fuimos 8 en total.

Las Marianas es un pueblo de unos 500 hab a 140kms de Buenos Aires. Salimos temprano y a las 10 estábamos en la plaza del pueblo desayunando torta casera. Empezamos a dibujar a las 11hs y cortamos a las 13 para almorzar en el hotel. Luego de un copioso almuerzo seguimos dibujando hasta las 5 de la tarde, y luego de una charla emprendimos la vuelta. Fue un dia espectacular de dibujo y buena compañía.

Por la mañana dibuje el edificio de la estación y a la tarde un detalle del capitel de la columna del semicubierto del andén. Ambos en línea que complete con acuarelas luego en casa.

On April 13 take place the 39th Sletchcrawl. With fellow sketchers went to Las Marianas, Buenos Aires Province. Sketchers fron Buenos Aires and La Plata City took part. We were 8.

Las Mariana's is a small town, about 500 population and 87mi from Buenos Aires. Leave early in the morning and at 10 take a quick breakfast in the town's square with home made cake. Started to draw at 11hs to 13hs to have lunch at the hotel. After a heavy meal we continue drawing till 17hs, chat for a while and finally head up home. It was a great day of sketching and company.

In the morning I draw the station main building and at the afternoon a detail of column and roof of the platform. Both drawn in line on site and completed with watercolours at home.

Mi set de acuarelas / My watercolours set:

Mi primer cajita de acuarelas fue un regalo de jorge Royan. El me convenció de las bondades del uso de acuarelas y no tarde mucho en comenzar a usarlas, aunque en mi vida las habia tocado (supongo que en el colegio primario, pero eso fue hace mucho tiempo ya).

La caja está hecha de un contenedor de tarjetas personales de plástico, con goma eva calada y fondo de alto impacto. Son 8 colores Rembrandt: Madder Brown, San Green, Prussian Blue, Cad Yellow, Indigo, Payne´s Gray, Sepia, Burnt Umber, Quinacridone Gold y Dioxazine Violet que use muchas veces, sobre todo para ir probando los consejos que me daba jorge.

Un buen tiempo despues compre una cajita de Cotman Windsor & Newton de 1/2 godets de 12 colores: Lemon Yellow Hue, Cad Yellow Hue, Cad Red Pale Hue, Alizarin Crimson Hue, Intense Blue (Phthalo Blue), Ultramarine, Sap Green, Viridian Hue, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber y Chinese White. Luego busqué algunos colores más en pomo, que para incorporarlos a mi caja, dividí algunos espacios para alojar 2 colores: Ivory Black, Payne´s Gray, Raw Umber y Cad Red Deep Hue.

En Septiembre de 2013 me hice una nueva mini cajita de chapa de un envase de chicles que me regaló mi hija. En esta puse colores de los pomos Cotman y recliclé los de Rembrandt de la caja de Jorge. Esta cajita la llevo a todos lados, es muy chica y cómoda. El único punto molesto es que la tapa es cóncava y solo permite usar un solo color a la vez.

Como pinceles tengo todos con reserva de agua. 3 de Kuretake, fino, medio y grueso, y un cuarto que me regaló mi mamá, que es intermedio entre el fino y el medio de kuretake.

Completan el set una botellita de agua de plástico para recarga de agua de los pinceles y toallitas de papel para ir limpiando los pinceles. También suelo usar un platito de chapa chico para mezclar los colores ahí, pero no los uso con frecuencia.

My first box of watercolours was a present from Jorge Royan. He convinced me of the benefits of using watercolors and not take long to start using them, although never had touched it in my life (I guess in primary school, but that was a long time already).

The case is made of a transparent plastic container of personal cards with holey rubber and a dense plastic in the bottom. There are 8 Rembrandt colours: Madder Brown, San Green, Prussian Blue, Cad Yellow, Indigo, Payne´s Gray, Sepia, Burnt Umber, Quinacridone Gold and Dioxazine Violet that I used it many times, specially to put in practice Jorge´s tips.

A while after, I bought a pocket Cotman Windsor & Newton watercolours set of 12 half godet`s colours: Lemon Yellow Hue, Cad Yellow Hue, Cad Red Pale Hue, Alizarin Crimson Hue, Intense Blue (Phthalo Blue), Ultramarine, Sap Green, Viridian Hue, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber and Chinese White, and completed with some tubes to add it to the box. I divided some spaces to fit two colours in each: Ivory Black, Payne´s Gray, Raw Umber and Cad Red Deep Hue.

In september 2013 I made a mini-watercolours box from a gum package (present from my daughter). Here I fit some Cotman and Rembrandt tubes. I take this box everywhere, it`s very practical and tiny. The downside is that the lid is concave, so 1 colour at a time can be used.

I use H2O brushes, 3 Kuretake fine, med and broad, and another that`s between fine and med of the Kuretake.

The set is completed by a plastic water bottle to refill the brushes and tissue`s to clean the brushes. Also I take 2 small dishes to prepare colours, but I used it eventually.
