Edificio Bencich / Bencich Building:

On Saturday 9/27/14, with Urban Sketchers Argentina thanks to a excellent management by Norberto Dorantes, we have access to draw from the terrace of the Bencich Building.
This building has an architectural heritage, and it´s located on a privileged site occupying an unusual corner of downtown Buenos Aires and the built environment in which it is inserted.
From the terrace of the 10th floor someone can see a lot of toppings and domes of nearby buildings, and all of them are from the same level up because of the facades height limitation of Roque Saenz Peña Av.
The challenge was what to draw, almost the 360 ° views are amazing.

In one of the sketches I wanted to include a view of the domes of the building, and I liked this string of 4 domes along Diagonal Norte Av..
Drawn with Kaweco fountain pen with EF nib with water resistant ink on Moleskine watercolor sketchbook A4. For about 1 hour to complete line work, later watercolor @ my desk.

For this second sketch I'm looking north toward Florida Street. On the corner of Florida St. and J. D. Peron St. is the dome of the former Gath & Chaves shop and on the opposite corner the former Banco Popular Argentino. I liked the dialogue between the two toppings.
Drawn with fine liners 005 + 01 on Moleskine sketchbook large. Took 40 minutes to complete line work, later watercolor @ my desk.

On Saturday 9/20/14 took place the #42 Croquiseros Urbanos de Buenos Aires outing to Barraca Peña.
The Barraca Peña was a site of sheds to collect goods for export, located on the bank of the Riachuelo river.

The first sketch is about the railroad drawbridge that cross over the Riachuelo. It's the obvious postcard to draw, and morphologically very interesting. I drew it from a small pier, I wanted to be as close as possible to water level.
Drawn with Kaweco fountain pen with EF nib with brown water resistant ink. Unfortunately the ink spreads and tint the watercolors passes and I do not like it (as it already happened in this sketch).
I guess I will keep using it, as the brown line gives a softer finish than black line, which I like. In 300gms watercolor sheet for about 90 minutes. Later watercolours @ my desk.

And this is Jorge´s Beetle. A classic car that I love. I did some guide lines with pencil and ink with fine liners 005 and 01. I had a little time for watercolor passes in the inside of the car, then finish everything at home. On Moleskine sketchbook large, for 60 minutes.

On Wednesday 9/17/14 had the day off and went to draw. I had several options, and I went to Retiro neighbour. I did not know what to draw, so I walked for a while until I saw the Usina Tres Sargentos of the Italo Argentina de Electricidad firm. To draw on L. N. Alem Av. is a problem, there are a lot of traffic, but on Tres Sargentos Passage, which in recent years is pedestrian is ideal. Besides in this street is the tower of the  group.
The linework took about 1 hour, done with fineliners 005 and 01. Added watercolors for 30/40 more minutes. All done on location. Drawn in 300gms sheet.

Un par de remates / A couple of toppings I:

On Thursday 9/4/14 I went for a walk along Av. de Mayo to see what I could draw, and I stopped at this building at the 776. It has a topping that I really like. I had already drawn it, but the result was not to my liking. Luckily there's a bench across the street and with more luck it was free.
I sketched for 1:30 hs with Kaweco fountain pen with EF nib with brown water resistant ink. It was my first sketch with this ink. Unfortunately the watercolor is tinted with the passes over the ink.
On Moleskine sketchbook large, later watercolors @ my desk.
